Welcome
How Can We Help You?

It has finally arrived!  After much talk and consultation with many young carers and staff the new website is here.  The site will help to inform you about the project, who it’s for, what we do, how you can get involved and what’s going on.

Many of the pages are being put together as we speak and there is lots of stuff to do that we need your ideas for.

What do you think?  What do you want to see on these pages?  What things can we do to help you?  Get in touch with us at info@warwickshireyoungcarers.org.uk

10th June 2009

This week OfSted published a report on supporting young carers.

This survey explored how effectively young carers were identified by councils and their partners. It also examined the assessment and delivery of services for young carers and their families. The survey used evidence from visits to council areas, focus groups with young carers and meetings with those who provide young carer support services.

Lindsay Hoyle MP (Chorley) has submitted an Early Day Motion in Parliament calling on Government to ensure that the Ofsted recommendations are implemented without delay. As this has been submitted in the UK Parliament, it is open to MPs throughout the UK to support this.

The Early Day Motion says:

That this House notes with concern the findings of Ofsted's Supporting Young Carers survey; expresses concern that despite the recent reforms to children's services, many children and young people who care for their disabled parents are often unidentified, unsupported and without a voice; further notes with concern the low level of awareness by local authorities and their partners of the number of young carers in their area and that they do not consider their needs when providing services for disabled parents; further notes with concern that young carers surveyed were unaware of their right to request an assessment; believes that this situation is unacceptable and lets down these young people; and calls on the Government to ensure that the recommendations set out by Ofsted are implemented without delay and for the Government to develop a national strategy for young carers in order better to meet their needs.

31 MPs have supported this so far.  We are trying to build support for this in Parliament and any help you may be able to offer by asking your local MP to support the motion would be greatly appreciated.  Their office will be able to sign them up to it.
